Basic Islamic Sciences

The Department of Basic Islamic Sciences includes the main fields which have emerged and developed in Islamic history, to transmit the basic sources of Islam wholesomely to the next generations, understand their contents, and benefit from them in addressing the problems about thought and society. The divisions of Basic Islamic Sciences aim to research and teach the Qur’an and Hadith-based sciences, in particular, Qur’anic Recitation and the Science of Qira’at; the science of theology and usûl aims to designate the fundamentals of Islamic belief and build the world of Muslim thought; the science of Fiqh investigates the lines between halal-haram (legitimate-forbidden) and equitable principles; the science of Sufism does researches regarding the analysis and education of a human’s inner world; and there are sciences of language as keys to the basic sources and the sciences mentioned above, as well as the sciences researching and teaching on the history of different religious movements, sects, and groups seen in the Islamic society. The main objective of the department is to ensure the students have the required knowledge of the primary sources of Islam, as well as the fundamentals of faith, worship, morals, and fiqh.
